Chenery is sacked as City's coach
BEN Chenery has been sacked as Chelmsford City's coach with captain Dave Rainford primed to take over the role.
Chenery has been manager Glenn Pennyfather's right hand man for the past three seasons but appears to have carried the can for the club's failure to secure promotion in that time.
"I would like to thank Ben for all the hard work he has put in at the club but it's time I made a decision to change things around," said chairman Mansell Wallace.
"For whatever reason it hasn't been working and it's time to make a change.

"I would like to thank Ben for all the hard work he has put in to the club and I'm sure he's got a bright future in the managerial side of the game.
"We have offered Dave the job as assistant and very much hope he will accept the role.
"He is a real leader within the club but we have to accept that maybe he can't play a full 90 minutes all the time.
"He's a really good character and the players respect him a great deal."
Chenery ends a long association with the club which stretches back to his playing days.
He played at centre-half in City's Ryman League Premier Division title winning side back in 2007/08 before moving on to the coaching staff following Jeff King's departure three seasons ago.
Pennyfather says he would have liked to have kept him at the club but accepts it wasn't possible on next season's reduced budget.
"You look at club's like Dartford and they've got several backroom staff," said the manager.
"I spoke to Ben last week and naturally he was disappointed but it's a decision that the chairman has made.
"I would like to thank Ben for all the tremendous work he has put in at this club. He is a close personal friend as well as a colleague."
Rainford struggled for form and fitness last season and is now considering the post while on holiday.
Should he accept he would continue as a player but the captain's armband is likely to go elsewhere.
"If David takes the job then it's going to be a difficult transition for him," said Pennyfather.
"He's still a novice in terms of coaching but I accept that.
"I think being a coach and a player would be enough responsibility for him so with the captaincy I'll probably be looking elsewhere."
Meanwhile Clarets midfielder Sam Corcoran is waiting for clarification on his future.
He told the Chronicle: "The club has offered me something to stay but we're waiting on a few things.
"I would like to stay with the manager if possible but I don't really know what's happening to be honest.
"I have got other options so I'm going to wait and see what's best for me.
"Nothing is set in stone at this point but I'm available."
