ROMFORD'S MP Andrew Rosindell has publicly backed a campaign to install Oyster Card machines at Romford and Gidea Park train stations.

Last week, Havering Greater London Assembly member Roger Evans blasted National Express over its failure to install the up-to-date machines.

At the moment, if a commuter arrives at Romford with a pre-paid Oyster Card, they could be liable to a fine.

In addition, the current ticket barriers do not have any Oyster Card readers, meaning that travel card type Oyster Cards cannot be read.

Andrew Rosindell I said: "I am pleased to support Roger Evans in his quest to clarify the situation at both Romford and Gidea Park stations over the use of Oyster Cards.

"It's about time that National Express installed the correct machines and allowed Pay As You Go Oyster Cards to be used on the Liverpool Street-Shenfield line.

"For years, this appalling situation has caused misery for thousands of commuters.

"I am relieved that action is finally being taken to try and resolve this situation once and for all.

"I will work with Roger Evansto bring about equal access to the Oyster Card system for Romford and Gidea Park commuters."

“I noticed this morning it looks like barriers are finally being put in Gidea Park. This is quite worrying because currently the ticket office is quite often closed so you will not be able to buy a ticket early mornings or when your oyster card fails to work (8 times so far!). The ticket machines are currently INSIDE where the barriers are being placed! I'm just glad I only use the station about once a month due to lack of seats on the trains making it impractical form of transport anyway !”
