THE Chronicle today launches a campaign to bring Queen Elizabeth II to Chelmsford and give England's newest city the party it deserves.

The Queen chose Chelmsford over hundreds of towns across England to become her official Diamond Jubilee city and took time out of her celebrations last week to sign the official documents.

But we have not been guaranteed a royal visit, so dozens of schoolchildren this week put pen to paper begging the Queen to honour us with a right royal celebration.

"I am proud that she has given us this honour but we would love to take her on a tour of Chelmsford to show her the lovely sights," said ten-year-old Mary-Ann Hadley, a Westlands Community Primary School pupil who wrote to the Queen.

Classmate Matthew Meadows added: "I am a huge royal fan and it would be unbelievable if the Queen came to Chelmsford. We would make every second of her visit count."

Council leader Roy Whitehead also backed our bid. "We are proud to be the only place in England that has been recognised and we would like the Queen to visit the city she has chosen for this honour," he said.

The Queen didn't personally choose Chelmsford to become a City, it was one's deputy Prime minister.”

“To what end? If she visits Chelmsford, a tremendous financial security pill will hit Essex police and thus the council tax payers of Chelmsford.
The queen has yet to say what a privilege it has been to 'serve' this country. All of the wretched jubilee hysteria was about her, nothing about us - we are the country, not the queen. Perhaps she agrees with Louis XIV, the 'Sun King', when he said, "I am the state." The queen would turn her nose up at Chelmsford (and any other British city for that matter).
The queen is an unelected, unaccountable head of state. We preach at third world countries about their despotic regimes, yet, here in GB, we have a queen who has not received one vote. She is a dictator. The entire country is run for the benefit of one family - the Windsors.
Take a long, hard look at the UK and think about it - everything is run on a shoestring budget, which costs lives - yet the civil list is never once cut. The queen, who is a billionaire, thanks to our taxes, is subsidised through the taxes of those on minimum wage. That is immoral.
The royals could easily finance themselves - the queen sells to Ribena all of the blackcurrants used in their drinks, Charles sells bacon to Waitrose etc etc. The royals are the epitome of greed.
When the queen dies Australia will become a Republic and rightly so. So should we. A Republic is inevitable.
I call one everyone to stop being brainwashed by the establishment and media and see monarchy for what it is - a myth that allows one corrupt, greedy, obnoxious family to live off of our taxes, overburden us with taxes and low wages as a result, and hold this country back.”
