COLD NORTON: Village hall receives massive lottery grant
A CASH-STRAPPED community hall is to be given a new lease of life after an eight year struggle to secure funds.
Villagers in Cold Norton are celebrating after hearing their village hall has secured £348,500 from the Big Lottery Fund.
A package of measures are now planned for the next six months to improve facilities including a meeting room, new toilet facilities, bar and serving area and improved car parking.
The hall is well used by many local groups including martial arts, a luncheon club and drop-in centre for older people.

Philip Wakeling, on behalf of Cold Norton Parish Council, said: "The news is a fantastic result.
"We are delighted that the Big Lottery Fund has been able to support our project, which will be of tremendous value to the people of Cold Norton and the surrounding area for years to come.
"We will now be able to comprehensively refurbish the hall, add new space and increase flexibility.
"This will make the hall much more attractive to users, both safeguarding the financial viability of the hall for the future and introducing a range of new activities to the village."
The Cold Norton Parish Council project will use the money to refurbish and extend the current hall, turning it into a valuable community space.
The facility was built during the 1985 village population boom and has become too small to cope with increased demand. It is hoped the new improved facility will solve the problem.
The money comes from the lottery fund's community buildings programme and is one of 35 awards, worth almost £10million, going towards village halls and community centres across the country.
