A DOUBLE transplant survivor is launching a major art exhibition as part of her newest

challenge.

Justine Laymond, from Chelmsford, will display more than 60 pieces of her abstract artwork during a five week show at the town's library.

Her work, painted over two decades, reflects her remarkable journey.

After a 10 year illness, the 36-year-old was given just days to live in 2006 before a double lung transplant saved her life.

"I have always painted," she said. "Since school, right through my illness and before and after my transplant.

"I get inspiration from my emotions, a lot came from my suffering with my illness so there are some quite dark pieces, but then there are bright colourful pieces too. It is very reflective of my personality and the journey I have been on."

Launching an art career for 2010 is just the latest challenge for the former fitness instructor.

In 2009 she was a medal winner at the UK Transplant Games and was also honoured for her courage, and campaigning about organ donation, in the Essex Chronicle's Essex Achievers Awards.

The exhibition runs at Chelmsford Library from January 11 to February 17.

Justine will hold workshops on January 25 from 2pm until 3.30pm and February 15 from 3pm to 4.30pm.
