BRAINTREE bounced back from last week's defeat in style to defeat Woodbridge by six wickets by 5.15pm. Nick Butler took 5-18 and then youngsters Rob Jones 59 and Dan Chalk 40 took Braintree to maximum 20 points.

Braintree won the toss and put Woodbridge into bat and made a great start when Green was caught at slip off the bowling of Ben Golds for four with the score on 16. Three runs later and the dangerous Matt Parker was trapped LBW by Ruan Holt for 0.

It was then Nick Butler who took the game away from the visitors. He had Parker stumped for 22, bowled Hall for 0 next ball and then completed his hat-trick when Tett was out LBW.

After his first three overs Butler had taken 3-4 but he wasn't finished there. Oswald was Butler's next victim bowled for six and then Stockwell was caught at mid on by Jones for 13 with Woodbridge reeling on 99-8 with Butler's figures now 5-12 from his first five overs.

Jamie Foyster had joined the attack and removed the last two batsmen . First the resistant Scopes for 27 caught at mid wicket by Celiz and then trapping Jenkins for three to end the Woodbridge innings on 131 in just 40 overs which handed Braintree an extra five overs to get their target.

Holt claimed 2-26, Foyster 2-28 and Butler 5-18.

Braintree made the worst possible start to their chase when Chris Leech missed a straight full toss and was bowled for 0 with the score on two. However any early nerves were soon removed with 16 year old Dan Chalk and 17 year-old Rob Jones at the crease. They both played with immense maturity and great timing to hit the ball all over the ground.

When Jones was out for 59 the pair had already put on a partnership of 106 and taken Braintree to 108-2 from only 18 overs. Ryan Vickery joined Chalk and continued the great shot making but unfortunately Chalk was then caught by Tyler off the bowling of Jenkins for 40 with the score on 110.

Will Jackson strode to the wicket looking to finish the game with boundaries but was caught in the covers for 0. Celiz joined Vickery and the pair took Braintree to victory with relative ease in the 24th over with Vickery 20 not out and Celiz six not out. This was a good all round performance by a very young Braintree side with an average age of 22 and they will look to push on again with the same starting XI when they face Abberton at home this Saturday 1pm start.
