Braintree man arrested after 'attack on mosque'
A man has been arrested in connection with an alleged attack on a mosque in Braintree this evening.
Officers responded to reports of a man in possession of a knife outside the centre in Silks Way at around 7.15pm.
An Essex Police spokesman said a 43-year-old was detained on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and attempted arson and remains in custody.
No one was injured.

Police said they continue to investigate the full circumstances of the incident.
Braintree MP Brooks Newmark met with leaders of the Al Falah Braintree Islamic Centre earlier this evening after the alleged incident and was quick to thank police for a swift response.
He wrote on his Twitter page: "Just met with leaders of local mosque in Braintree which was attacked this evening.
"Thanked local police for their swift response."
Witnesses reported scores of police at the scene.
It came hours after a man, reportedly a serving soldier, was killed in Woolwich, south east London in what is believed to have been a terrorist attack.
