BRENTWOOD: Baby in critical condition after zebra crossing crash
A six-month-old baby is battle for his life after a zebra crossing crash in Brentwood, Essex.
The mother was walking across the pedestrian crossing on Ongar Road at its junction with Doddinghurst Road, when the pushchair containing her baby boy was in collision with a silver Volkswagen Polo at 11.05am on Friday.
The baby is in a critical condition at Great Ormond Street Hospital and parents, who live in Brentwood, are with him.
The driver of the car, a 75-year-old woman from the Brentwood area, has been interviewed under caution and will be reinterviewed at a later date.

“Both families lives have changed for the worse, i believe both have suffered enough, there is no need to blame anyone, the main concern is that the baby makes a full recovery. The 75 year old lady probably has grandchildren of her own. There was no intention for her to purposely run them over.
This is such tragic news and is devastating to both families. The driver probably wishes she hadn't got out of bed. There are so many if's and but's. Right now that is the least important thing.
My thoughts and prayers are with the familys.”

“Of course we know the Effect, J Anderson - the article says that! The question is: What was the Cause? Everyone seems eager to build the gallows for either the mother or the driver, when we currently have no idea who was "at fault". Patience, people!
And come on George - trolling about the slippery high street is one thing, but to flame an RTA?”

“Anderson , Your verbosity is exceeded only by your stupidity. Please excuse me whilst I just Phart in your direction. You're yet another nanny state Socialist- Maxist trying to tell us what to do,say and think . I may not agree with Micky, Gravy , Trok of Anglia , RM or Chris Lloyd , but I believe they have every right to say whatever they want, however they want and make total fools of themselves .”

“RM, you fool, we know what's happened; there was a tragic accident, in which a beautiful baby was seriously injured.
We all need to pray for that baby's speedy and complete recovery as well as for the mother.
I cannot believe that Lloyd, a Nazi, has been allowed to make an anti-Jewish posting. This is utterly disgusting. Legal action should be taken against this fascist scum.
George also abuses this website to make derogatory remarks about the Christian religion. This also is totally unacceptable.
Both men should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.”

“R M , I get the feeling you are one of those Web Robots (also known as Web VVankerers, Crawlers, or Spiders). There is no cure for your kind of utter stupidity . The game here is READ what I said, then comment .”

“The point you do not appear to have taken on board George, is that we do not yet know what happened. Maybe the mother was at fault, maybe it was the driver - maybe both? Unless you were privy to details of the accident as yet undisclosed, you are doing nothing but making wild assumptions. Given the gravity of the situation, this is neither helpful nor particularly respectful to the parties concerned.”

“All 3 zebra crossing along that part of Ongar Rd are dangerous, I find the one in the middle by the shops difficult to cross as the cars as always speeding and rarely stop.
Brentwood council won't do anything they never do and will pass the buck onto Essex Council as they are responsible for the roads.
Time to have raised zebra crossing, where the beacon poles are also lit as in many other towns.
Brentwood is the worse place I've ever lived for road safey, narrow pavements and selfish drivers.
The old Napier Junction has only just had a crossing installed, Western Rd is a racetrack and the High St still isn't finished 2 weeks after the re-opening date.
My prayers go out to the baby and family”

“Shame on the pushy lorry driver who refused to wait after the tragic collision and forced his way through the traffic, pasing his great dirty lorry only a few feet from the baby's head. Whoever you are, mate, you're a total disgrace.
Lance, you Nazi scum, you should be prosecuted for your racist, anti-Semitic views.”

“I came on here this morning to try to find out if the baby boy is improving. Unfortunately, all I find are a number of angry people using this to air their ageist, sexist views and have a moan about everything from the state of our roads to the state of people's spelling and punctuation. I'm quite shocked. I cannot imagine what the family of the baby are going through right now, or for that matter the driver of the car. I think we should be thankful that none of us are in the position of these people. This is something that every parent and every driver dreads. Surely it only takes a momentary lapse in concentration , one lapse in judgement ,one mistake, to end up in the position of the mother or the driver and could surely happen to anyone...young or old...male or female. We are only human after all. Most importantly, I wish the baby boy a speedy recovery.”
